Week 3 started Thursday night for Centerpoint’s
Junior High Knights in their first conference game against
Bismarck Lions. With time running out and the score tied, at
eight. Centerpoint would hand off to Austin Homes and with a
twist to his left sideline for fifty-eight yards for six
points. Bismarck’s offense would only have four seconds
to respond. The final score Centerpoint Junior High-14
Bismarck Junior High-8.
Friday night Centerpoint
Senior High challenged Bismarck at Rosboro Stadium for a
non-conference match up. With Bismarck, scoring first
during the opening moments the Knights would spend the
remainder of the game attempting to catch up.
With less than two
minutes, remaining the Knights, trailing by two points, the
Knights in striking distance only to have the pass from
Russell Watts to Dylan Cobb intercepted by Bismarck’s Zach
Shultz. Bismarck would used ball control to end the game with
the final score Bismarck Lions-14 to Centerpoint Knights-12.

ROSBORO, AR- The Murfreesboro Rattlers (2-0) spoiled the
Centerpoint Knights (0-1-1) home opener last Friday with a
dominating 35-0 win in front of a huge crowd at Rosboro
Stadium in Rosboro, Ark.
The Knights didn’t have 100 yards of offence,
the Knights gained 24-yards on the last play of the game to
get a total of 89-yards in total offense and until that play
they only had 65-yards.
“We got stoned,” Cary Rogers, Centerpoint
Knights head coach said. “It was every bit as bad as it
sounds.
Despite the blow-out, we still named a most
valuable player in the game at KWXI, sponsored by First
National Bank and the MVP was Chase Allen.
The Knights are re-grouping and getting ready
for their next opponent, the Bismarck Lions who beat Horatio
16-0 on Friday.
“They’re (Bismarck) very competitive and we
play 7-on-7 with them in the summer and we have some good
match ups so I figure this game will be a pretty completive
game,” Coach Rogers said.
You can listen to the Centerpoint/Bismarck game

HORATIO, AR- The Centerpoint Knights battled the Horatio Lions
to a 36-36 tie last Friday. Despite six Knights turnovers and
sixteen penalties, Centerpoint appeared to have won the game
with a successful two-point conversion late in the fourth
quarter, but the conversion was nullified by a holding penalty
on the Knights and on the second attempt Horatio’s defense
held resulting in the tie.
Knights quarterback Russell Watts was named the
KWXI/First National Bank player of the game. Watts completed
10 of 19 pass attempts for 159 yards, two-touchdowns and one
interception. Watts also rushed for 11-yards and a score.
T.J. Patterson led all Knights rushers
with 23 carries for 90 yards and a touchdown. Luke Palmer had
11 totes for 22 yards and a touchdown. Palmer also had 5
receptions for 66 yards. Dylan Cobb carried the ball three
times for 24-yards, and two receptions for 22-yards and a
touchdown. Jon Zamorano had a 50-yard touchdown catch.
It’s obvious that the Knights have an explosive
offence but they’ll need to cut down on the turnovers and
penalties if they’re going to win their next game. The Knights
will face their cross-county rivals, the Murfreesboro Rattlers
Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Rosboro Stadium.

Knights Purple and Gold Scrimmage a Huge
Success-By Bob DelGIornol
ROSBORO, AR- A record crowd showed up for the
Centerpoint Knights annual Purple and Gold Scrimmage at
Rosboro Stadium Friday August 22nd, 2009 as the
Knights Junior High and Senior High had inner squad scrimmages
and the booster club sold Knights merchandise.
“By far, it’s the largest crowd we’ve ever
had,” Cary Rogers, Centerpoint Knights head football coach
said. “This was the first year to divide them into two teams.
We never had enough numbers where we could have two teams with
every position,” Rogers said. In the past we had the first
team offence go against everybody else rotating on defense and
switch around and people have rotated.”
The Knights have 39 players on the senior high
team this year and 36 on the junior high team, Rogers
said.

#18 Dylan
Cobb Centerpoint's sophomore Running back as he attempts
to go around the end as #28 Jantzden Bradford gets into the
backfield trying to break up the play during Centerpoint's
Purple and Gold game Friday night.
“With that many kids playing, it was a good
turnout and the home side looked pretty full,” Coach Rogers
said. “That’s great for a purple and gold game.”
It’s obvious that the Centerpoint football
program is growing tremendously since Coach Rogers’s arrival
6-years ago.
“I hope so,” Rogers said. “The parents of the
kids playing now have been real supportive of the things we’re
doing and that’s obvious.”
In previous seasons, every player on the
Knights team saw playing time in varsity games because the
team did not have a lot of players. Coach Rogers admits that
not every player will see a lot of varsity action this year
because of the number of players on the team. However, Coach
Rogers said that he thinks that parents understand that and
they’ve put together a Junior varsity games schedule of
6-games so that kids can all get to play in games this year,
if not in varsity, in junior varsity games.

Centerpoint's #22 Luke Palmer a Senior at Centerpoint High
School as he breaks loose for long yardage. #3 Jon
Zamarano breaks up a possible TD in Friday night Purple and
Gold game at Centerpoint High School.
“If kids keep coming out, it’s going to keep
getting better,” Rogers said.
Coach Rogers said that the players that
performed well in the senior high scrimmage were Luke Palmer (FB/LB),
DJ Patterson (RB), Carter Garrison (QB), John Ringer, Jantzen
Bradford (DE) and Jon Zamorano.
Garrison is playing quarterback for Russell
Watts who has a dislocated index finger. Coach Rogers said
that Watts will be out of action for the scrimmage this week
against Springhill and the season opener Horatio September 4th.
Rogers said that he was most impressed with the
teams pace on offense and defense during the scrimmage.
As far as new up and comers on this year’s
Knights team, Coach Rogers said that sophomore running back
Dillon Cobb, sophomore defensive end Jantzen Bradford and
safety Austin Wilder are impressive so far this year.
The Knights junior high will scrimmage
Springhill at Centerpoint Monday at 6 p.m. and the senior high
will scrimmage Tuesday night at Springhill.
You can listen to all the Centerpoint Knights
football games live on KWXI AM-FM and KWXI.Net with David
Tidwell and Chris Lindsey providing the play-by-play and color
commentary.

Pre Season Preview by Robert Del Giorno
ROSBORO, AR- The Centerpoint Knights head
football coach Cary Rogers likes to run, he runs 2-miles every
morning and has enjoyed being the head coach for the Knights
for 7-years and he was thrilled when his squad made the
playoffs in 2007. However, what excites him most is the
upcoming season because the Knights have speed.
“It’s the fastest bunch we’ve had and that’s
the most exciting thing this year. We have some (sped) coming
back, some coming up from the junior high and some moved in
and some came from basketball,” Knights head coach Cary Rogers
said. “We’ve gone form a little bit of speed to a lot of
speed. We are in good shape speed wise.”
Coach Rogers is the offensive coordinator of
his Knights team and he told KWXI-Sports that the Knights will
run a wing-offense with two split ends, instead of two tight
ends like they’ve run in the past. They will use two
slot-backs and a fullback.
“Because of our speed our wing offence is
wingless this year but we’ll basically run the same plays,”
Rogers said. “If you look at Navy’s offence,
that’s ho we line up.”
Rogers said that the players to watch on the
Knights offense are senior all-conference fullback Luke Palmer
(6-0,220), senior quarterback Russell Watts (6-1, 205),
junior halfback T.J. Patterson and senior offensive tackle
Chase Allen (6-3, 240).
Luke Palmer is a human highlight real and a
player that only comes around once in a while. Palmer rushed
for 621 yards and 13 TD’s last season and he is as strong as
an ox, and he power cleans 270 – pounds in the weight room
which is a Centerpoint record.
“He’s the kid that loves football and not just
the games. He practices, lifts weights, runs, he just loves
football period,” Coach Rogers said. “When others get down or
tired he (Palmer) is at the fore front, pushing everyone. On
top of that, he’s a skilled football player. He’s big and a
leader. He can catch well and he can run and he can tackle.”
Next, Palmer will fix the economy.
“He’s not just a rah, rah guy,”
Rogers said. “He (Palmer) gets it done on the
field and that’s how he has evolved into the roll of wanting
everyone to do better and he exemplifies that on the field.”
The defensive coordinator for the Knights is
Coach Nic Mounts and the Knights will run a 4-4 defense.
Centerpoint has depth so they will not have to have many
players playing both ways. The exception is Plamer who will
play linebacker for the Knights on defense.
The Knights are also led on the defensive side
of the ball by defensive tackle John Ringer (5-11, 260) who
bench presses 315 pounds. Coach Rogers said that other players
on the Knights defense who are stellar are junior Rover Alex
Duggan (5-8, 160), senior defensive back Kevin Patterson and
cornerback Jon Zamorano.
Last year the punter was
Watts and he is probably going to punt this
year but there’s open competition at the place kicker spot.
The Knights special teams’ coordinator is John Harless.
The Knights good make a play for a playoff spot
and Rosboro Stadium will be a fun place to be on Friday
nights.
You can listen to all the Centerpoint Knights
games live on KWXI (670-AM-98.9-FM) and live on the web site
at
www.kwxi.net. David Tidwell will be the play-by-play man
and Chris Lindsey will provide the color commentary.
